Blogs:
aims to keep two things that seem incompatible in close juxtaposition in order to explore a proper balance. It used to be, so they say, that preachers thundered about hell so much that it seemed nearly everyone would go there. Today, they emphasize God’s love and grace. That’s good, except that in love, God extends grace to rescue people from sin. We don’t hear enough about sin these days, and without that, we hear only cheap grace.
Guru’s Views of the News: occasional thoughts on current events
Musicology is the academic study of music, as opposed to composition and performance. Sound boring? I hope not. Program notes at concerts or with CDs, background information about music on radio stations, or books about music probably came from the work of a musicologist. If you like that, you’ll also enjoy my posts, mostly about “classical” music, with a look at “popular” music broadly speaking.
It all began here. Three of the original four topics now have their own blogs. What remains at this address, Reading, Writing, Research is a librarian’s blog. Or, since it still has the “www” prefix, think of it as Wreading, Writing, Wresearch! But unlike other librarians’ blogs, its intended audience is the library-using public, not other librarians or the users of a particular library. After all, if most people begin to look for information with a search engine, shouldn’t there be good information about using a library for them to find?
Sustainable Future, Green Homes,
my newest blog, begins with posts moved from my original blog, called The All-Purpose Guru. I have been interested in environmental issues at least since the first Earth Day. I served on two different working groups of a university sustainability committee and wrote its first definition of sustainability. Starting my own Internet business selling “green” products has shown me that sustainability is even broader than I suspected before.
